Design and display
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 has the same paperback design as the Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, it is slightly thinner, about 3 mm shaved in length and about 2 mm wider, which makes it easier to hold.
Despite the size changes, the Samsung phone still retains the same screen dimensions as its predecessor, although due to the size changes, the aspect ratio is different.
The main display remains a 7.6-inch 2-fold folding dynamic AMOLED display with a resolution of 1812 x 2176 pixels. The screen is now brighter, with a thinner frame and a camera underneath the screen that slides out to the side for more immersion.
This is a great display for watching movies and browsing the web, and with a large screen and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, it will make a good gaming phone.
You get s-Pen support on the main screen, so you can take notes and sketches on this device. The s-Pen is not included with the device, so you need to purchase it separately or use an existing pen if you have an s Pen Pro or an s Pen Fold Edition.
Folding the smartphone, the screen in the case is still 6.2 inches, although in general it is now wider and shorter. This is a 2x AMOLED dynamic display with a resolution of 904 x 2316 pixels.
The back panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Victus Plus and the flexible display has become more robust thanks to the armored aluminum frames and hinges. This makes the smartphone much more robust.
Designed to improve productivity
Samsung positions the Galaxy Z Fold 4 as a high-performance device. The large tablet-sized screen and S-Pen support mean that the device is in a better position to fill the void left by the now-defunct Galaxy Note series, which ended with the Galaxy Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra.
It is designed to improve multitasking with a new taskbar that makes it easier to navigate through multiple windows.
There is a multi-screen mode on the main screen, which can be useful when working with email. You don’t need to switch the message list and the actual message, as both of them can be elegantly displayed on the same screen.
Flexible mode is ideal for increasing productivity. This is when the phone is used folded in half in the laptop orientation, with the lower half on a flat surface serving as a touchpad for navigating through the contents, and the other half as a screen.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a total of five cameras. You get three cameras at the back, one under the on-screen camera on the main folding screen and a fifth camera on the front screen.
This is similar to the layout of the Fold3 camera, although the characteristics of the camera are now very different and have been updated with improved quality.
The rear camera is equipped with a 50-megapixel wide-angle main camera with an aperture of f/1.8 and support for dual-pixel autofocus with phase detection (PDAF) and optical image stabilization (OIS).
The main camera is equipped with a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.4, PDAF, OIS and 3x optical zoom, as well as a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and a field of view of 123.
This camera provides enhanced image quality with 30x digital zoom. Since the cover is located next to the high-quality rear triple camera, you can take selfies with the main camera, which gives you high-quality selfies. The device can save your images in expert RAW format.
Now for screen cameras we have a 10 megapixel wide angle camera with holes drilled in the screen cover, with an aperture of f/2.2, which is similar to Fold3.
The camera on the foldable display is now more modest – 4 megapixels with a wide-angle lens. As in Fold 2021, the camera is located under the screen, but this time it is less noticeable.
It can record 4K video to both the main camera and the bridge camera. Slow motion recording is also supported by the main 720p high definition video recording offering at 960 frames per second.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 offers a much better camera, more smartphone-compatible for the price, however, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and its more affordable cousins like the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus still have the best cameras in a Samsung phone.
Hardware and software
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes with an updated chipset. It is the same chipset as the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and represents a small upgrade compared to the Galaxy S22 series Chipset.
